The Illusion of Democracy is a collaborative project between the University of Southampton and the UK Parliament and supported by the Parliamentary Archives at the Houses of Parliament.
The year 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the Secret Ballot Act of 1872, and today's democracy is being severely challenged by the surveillance capitalism brought about by technology. With the advent of new technologies and the rise of social media, the quantity and quality of political information we consume have changed.
The Illusion of Democracy aims to reveal how we interact with political information. It is a multi-media experience that combines aesthetic performance, creative computing, VFX and prototyping to bring the audience up close and personal with the visual and auditory senses, thus provoking the public to think about the truth behind it.
